Although it was standing room only, everyone was able to take a moment to show respect to those who stood for us and our freedom in past wars. Many students came, even though it was a snow day, to have the chance to sing the song they had prepared. A huge thank you to the team who made this assembly possible.Friday was a PA Day and the board gathered all educators in two locations: Bayridge Secondary school for K-6 staff and LCVI for 7-12. We had the opportunity to learn from amazing speakers, Dr. Andrew B. Campbell in the morning and Professor Christian Muise in the afternoon. Their messages were on the importance of belonging and AI in education. There were also several workshops staff could choose from after each presentation. Staff will share their learning at future staff meetings. This week is Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. Messages of kindness will be shared in each class and in the school. Friday will be a pink shirt day.FROM THE LIBRARY COMMITTEE - A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out on Friday to help in the library. We had over thirty volunteers, including many high school students, show up to sort books, move books, label books, dust corners, and install shelves. We got more done than the library team had thought possible! Students will be thrilled to find a full shelf of new books for them to read on Monday and all the books organized by language, genre, and age. FRESH FROM THE FARM - The pick up for your Fresh from the farm order is Tuesday afternoon and after school. These bags are too big for students to take on the bus, so families will need to come and pick up or ask a friend to.OPERATION WARM FEET - Next Saturday, there is an opportunity to get new winter boots for 2$ a pair at KCHC on Weller Avenue from 9:00am to 1:00pm. See poster below. MESSAGE FROM THE CITY - As the weather changes, more families may choose to drive to and from school. Please remember that stopping in school bus loading zones or no-stopping areas can result in high parking fines. We encourage families to respect posted signage and use alternative locations for pick-up and drop-off. At Rideau, those bus loading zones are on MacDonnell Street and on Dundas Street in front of the school. Consult the updated Park and Stride map below to find alternative parking spots.BOOKFAIR - Mark your calendar, Rideau will host a Scholastic Bookfair during the week of December 8. FUNDSCRIP - With the holidays coming up, some of you might consider gift cards as presents. I am not sure what Kingston is like, but north of the 401 the snow is slowly covering the grass. Fingers crossed that the roads are cleared for tomorrow's commute.Our Parent Council Minutes for October's meeting have been approved at our November meeting last week. You can find them below. At this latest meeting, we had representatives from the city presenting the project for the Park Street and Toronto Street intersection. It will be quite the endeavour and should help with traffic and safety. In the meantime, please remember to be careful, patient and gracious. In the meantime, we would appreciate if you could review bus etiquette with your child. Students need to be seated and refrain from eating, yelling or hitting while on the bus. These may seem like obvious expectations; but we find ourselves having to repeat them too many times. Our bus drivers have a big responsibility and they should be able to focus on the road.BULLYING AWARENESS AND PREVENTION WEEK - Next week will be dedicated to bullying awareness and prevention. November 21 will be pink shirt day. In their home communication, teachers will share what they will do in class. To help us better understand how students’ identities and experiences relate to their achievement and well-being, we are launching our second See Yourself in Limestone Student Census Survey this fall.The census is a voluntary and confidential survey for students in Grades 4 to 12, running from November 24 to 28, 2025. It gathers information about students’ identities and their experiences at school. This data is then paired with academic information to help us understand what school is like for different groups of students.Important information for families:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">The survey is optional.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Responses are confidential and students can skip any questions they do not wish to answer.</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Students will complete the survey during class time.</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Students who do not participate will be provided with an alternative activity.</li></ul>Families who do not want their student(s) to complete the survey must contact their school principal by Friday, November 14, 2025. Student Census Survey Opt-Out Deadline Extended

Dear Families,As a follow-up to our previous messages about the upcoming Student Census survey, the deadline for families to opt out has been extended to the end of day on Monday, November 17. If you wish to opt your student(s) out, please contact your school principal.
