I want to make sure you understand the grades your child receives as I think there is sometimes a misconception as to what a grade means. Here is the Ministry's definition of each of the levels of achievement:</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><i><b><strong class="editor-text-bold editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Level 1 - D </strong></b></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">represents achievement that falls much below the provincial standard. The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with limited effectiveness. Students must work at significantly improving in specific areas, as necessary, if they are to be successful in a subject or course in the next grade.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><i><b><strong class="editor-text-bold editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Level 2 - C </strong></b></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">represents achievement that approaches the standard. The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with some effectiveness. Students performing at this level need to work on identified learning gaps to ensure future success.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><i><b><strong class="editor-text-bold editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Level 3 - B </strong></b></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">represents the provincial standard for achievement. The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with considerable effectiveness. </span><u><span class="editor-text-underline" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Parents of students achieving at level 3 can be confident that their children will be prepared for work in subsequent grades or courses.</span></u></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><i><b><strong class="editor-text-bold editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Level 4 - A </strong></b></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">identifies achievement that surpasses the provincial standard. The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with a high degree of effectiveness.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Our goal is to have students achieve at level 3 (B) so that we know they met the standard for the grade they are in.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Ground UP Dance Festival</strong></b><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> is Kingston’s dance series focusing on building community, providing performance platforms for emerging and established choreographers, and supporting artists throughout their journey in creation and development.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><br><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">This week:</strong></b></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 9 - Track and Field District</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 10 - Marathon Club Celebration, </span><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Family BBQ - La fête de juin</strong></b></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 11 - Grade 6 to Toronto</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 12 - Rideau Pride Celebration</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><br></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Upcoming:</strong></b></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 15 - Grades 4 and 5 to Ottawa</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 16 - Celebration of Dance</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 18 - Grade 1 Trolley Tour</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 19 - Grade 3 Upper Canada Village</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 22 - Grade 6 Celebration</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 23 - Grade 2 Toronto Zoo</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 24 - Year End Assembly</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">June 25 - </span><i><em class="editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Ashura</em></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">, Last Day of School</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><br></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">This is it for this week. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Rideau Public School</span></h2><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Weekly Memo May 25-29</span></h2><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><br></p><h2 class="editor-heading-h2"><img src="/images/f3bb6f92-f531-412b-aec7-6a5678250366?fingerprint=ppb20251217015231" alt="Rideau PS" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"></h2><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><br></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Bonjour Rideau Families,</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">With many field trips coming up, I would like to remind parents that we cannot take/post pictures of other people's children without explicit permission. I know that with Meta Glasses, it becomes really easy to capture memories, but we have to be mindful that not all parents want their child's picture on social media. You can still take pictures of your own child, you just need to be mindful of others around them. </span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">We have a wonderfully organized soccer game happening during the Grade 1-3 recess. We have Grade 6 students refereeing, an adult supervisor overseeing, and many other students who like to watch and cheer from the sidelines. All students in Grade 1-3 who expressed interest get their turn to play. This has helped greatly with the conflicts and aggressions we had been seeing at recess while students were playing soccer, so we will continue with this until the end of the school year. This is the only soccer we are allowing on the field due to those previous conflicts and injuries. We now have lots of new lines on the pavement where students can play hopscotch, four square, do an activity circuit on the track, and use the wall ball targets.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Parking at drop off and pick up continues to be an issue where adults are not being safe. We need to put our comfort and convenience aside to keep our students safe. This means obeying the parking signs posted all around the school, slowing down, and being courteous to one another. By-laws have been advised that it is time for another round of supervision and tickets will be issued. </span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The Parent Involvement Committee at the Board level will be hosting an event on social media and youth on June 5th. View All NewsPride Month Recognition in Limestone
<p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Education Centre, along with schools across the district, is recognizing Pride Month in the KFL&A region by flying the Progress Pride Flag for the remainder of the school year.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The Government of Canada notes that the manner in which the Canadian flag is displayed is not governed by legislation. The guidelines provided are not mandatory for individuals or organizations but are intended to offer general direction.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">After consultation and clarification from Heritage Canada and communication with trustees, LDSB schools with only one flagpole will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag for the balance of this school year. Limestone’s goal will be to increase the number of schools with more than one flagpole and/or the addition of yardarms to existing flagpoles to display more than the Canadian flag. Until this goal is achieved, we will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag at sites with only one flagpole.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Displaying the Progress Pride Flag is a way for LDSB to show support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This recognition does not diminish our respect for Canada’s national flag; rather, it reflects our commitment to ensuring that all students, staff, and families feel welcomed, valued, and respected in Limestone schools.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Flying the Progress Pride Flag is one example of how LDSB demonstrates its inclusive culture. As a publicly funded school board, we have both a legal and moral responsibility to create learning environments where everyone can see themselves reflected and feel a sense of belonging.</span></p>
