The end of the year is coming fast and there are many exciting things in the horizon.Staffing news: Mme Kennedy is moving to another school next fall; she will be at Amherstview PS. Coming back to us in the role of Vice-Principal and SST is M. Derbyshire. We would like to wish Mme Kennedy the best; knowing she will be greatly missed and we welcome M. Derbyshire with open arms.Also leaving us as they embark on the amazing journey called retirement are Mme Sveinson, Mme Gazdik and Mme Kim. Limestone Students Shine at the 2026 Ontario Skills Competition

Limestone District School Board students showcased their outstanding skills and talent at the 2026 Skills Ontario Competition, held in Toronto on May 4 and 5, 2026.The Skills Ontario Competition offers a unique opportunity for top students from across the province to demonstrate that they are truly the best in their field. Over two and a half days, competitors impress educators, family members, friends, and potential employers through hands-on, real‑world challenges. Remembering Trustee Jim Neill

The Limestone District School Board is deeply saddened by the passing of Trustee Jim Neill, who served as a Trustee since 2022. Jim passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026.During his time on the Board, Trustee Neill demonstrated a commitment to public education and to supporting the work of the Board in service of students, families, and communities across Limestone. He was a long-time educator in the Upper Canada District School Board, as well as a served for multiple terms as a City of Kingston Councillor. We are grateful for the contributions he made as a Trustee.We extend our sincere condolences to Trustee Neill’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.“We are saddened by the passing of Trustee Jim Neill,” said Board Chair Karen McGregor. “Jim brought a thoughtful presence to the Board and a genuine interest in public education. This 1-hour creative movement workshop blends storytelling and dance to spark creativity and self-expression. Students explore an inspirational children’s book as the foundation for movement creation, followed by a guided warm-up and collaborative exercises to develop choreography inspired by the story. The session concludes with a fun sharing opportunity, building confidence, communication, and a love of movement. Upcoming Family Engagement and Climate Survey

The Limestone District School Board is inviting families to take part in the Family Engagement and Climate Survey. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. It also supports schools and school councils in building welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.The survey includes questions about:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">How schools communicate and share information</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Whether families feel welcome, included, and connected</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Barriers to taking part in school activities, such as time, childcare, language, accessibility, or cost</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Safety and bullying, including reporting and follow‑up</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Licensed Before and After School Programs, including questions to help inform future planning</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">Some questions ask about family background to help us better understand different experiences across our communities</li></ul>Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Families may skip any questions they choose. No names or identifying information are collected. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. I don't know about you; but I am ready for some consistent sunshine!With spring, activities are ramping up at the school. Aside form the numerous field trips, there are clubs going on as well as special workshops opportunities, basketball, running and soon track and field. We sure know how to keep our little rhinos busy!Friday is a PA Day. Look at the poster below for a great opportunity. I know grade 6 parents are probably wondering when the Celebration will be this year. We are currently finalizing the details before confirming the date. We should be able to share it shortly. Every year, students in grade 3 and grade 6 write the EQAO assessment. Every little bit helps!Fun fact: The kids who came to help last year had a great time, bring your kids so they can be a part of this event that supports our community and the environment. May 9: Take downSwing by the school at 2pm to pick up a few boxes of leftover items to donation locations Our Parent Council is recruiting volunteers for Bingo!<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Rideau Public School is now a registered charity for bingo fundraising at Community Spirit Gaming Centre at 900 Montreal Street. </li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Volunteer shifts are two hours long and are various times including during the day, evening, and weekends. </li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Duties are very light: mostly greeting people, walking around the bingo hall, and getting a runner's attention if someone gets a bingo.</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Shifts are very lucrative: each two-hour shift earns about $600 for our library renovations, kindergarten yard shade, and many other initiatives for students. </li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">There are currently only two shifts a month so the time commitment is low. Sewing Maching Loan ProgramWith the success of the Sewing Club, Rideau is thrilled to offer a Sewing Machine Loan Program! If your student loved sewing in the club but doesn’t have access to a machine (or if you're not a sewing expert yourself), this program is here to help.Families can borrow a sewing machine, supply kit, and pattern binder for a week at a time to continue building sewing skills. Loans run Wednesday to Wednesday, with a mandatory tutorial led by M. Himada after school at 4:00 PM on pick-up day.This program is open to students who have participated in Sewing Club. For more information or to book a week, contact Patti (patti.n.lane@gmail.com) or M. Himada (himadaa@limestone.on.ca).Let’s keep the creativity going!Beaver BotsThis past fall, Rideau received a $1,000 grant from Caldwell & Co. Kingston Real Estate Agents to support the purchase of Beaverbots (cardboard cutters). Additional funds were raised through a raffle featuring items donated by the Limestone Quilters Guild, the sale of DIY Rad Rhino buttons at two Boo Bash events, and a generous $300 contribution from the School Advisory Council. Thanks to this amazing community support, we were able to purchase four Beaverbots for the school!Students have since used the Beaverbots to create planes, famous buildings, 3D ornaments, and bridges. Merci mille fois! Field TripsWe have lots of field trips and events coming up so please keep your eyes on School Day so that you don't miss anything. Many families have offered to cover the cost of other students attending field trips as some families appreciate this support for theor children to go on field trips. We used to have paper field trip forms on which you could check a box to help support another child, but with digital permission forms this is not an option. We now have Products on School Day for supporting other students on field trips if this is something that you would like to do. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" style="text-align: start;">ENRICHMENT WORKSHOP SERIES at RIDEAU: </h2>A Series of Workshops for Students by Visiting Experts Workshop #2: Poetry with Sadiqa de MeijerWednesday, April 8 at 10:45-11:45 and Thursday, April 9 at 10:45-11:30 in the library Students in grades 4-6 are invited to join Sadiqa de Meijer, Kingston's Poet Laureate, for a 2-part workshop on poetry that asks the question, What would Lake Ontario sound like in a poem?This poetry workshop will explore, through reading a poem, improvising on it with some humour, and then creating our own works, a deeper engagement with where we live. The workshop will be documented by members of The Rideau Tribune, our school’s student newspaper, and some of the resulting poems may be published in the upcoming issue. Please encourage your child to attend! Every little bit helps!Fun fact: The kids who came to help last year had a great time, bring your kids so they can be a part of this event that supports our community and the environment. May 9: Take downSwing by the school at 2pm to pick up a few boxes of leftover items to donation locations Our Parent Council is recruiting volunteers for Bingo!<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Rideau Public School is now a registered charity for bingo fundraising at Community Spirit Gaming Centre at 900 Montreal Street. </li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Volunteer shifts are two hours long and are various times including during the day, evening, and weekends. </li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Duties are very light: mostly greeting people, walking around the bingo hall, and getting a runner's attention if someone gets a bingo.</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Shifts are very lucrative: each two-hour shift earns about $600 for our library renovations, kindergarten yard shade, and many other initiatives for students. </li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">There are currently only two shifts a month so the time commitment is low.
