Over the coming months, Limestone staff will be reviewing and updating course outlines, assessment practices, and supporting resources to ensure alignment with the new provincial requirements.The Food Sharing Project UpdateDuring the 2025-2026 school year, The Food Sharing Project supported every LDSB school by providing nutritious food and resources to students each day. On average, more than 14,000 meals and snacks were served each week, over 530,000 throughout the year, with weekly food orders reaching approximately $17,500.We are grateful to the dedicated staff who make these programs possible, and to The Food Sharing Project for continuing to support student well-being across LDSB. This support is increasingly important as many families continue to face food insecurity. Anything left on July 2 will go to donation centres. There are some high quality clothes in there. Looking for something to do this summer? Consider EarlyON! It is a free program for kids up to age 6 and their families. They provide toys and activities for the kids, and a place for parents to connect with each other. They also can talk with parents if they are having concerns about their child, and give advice if they need it. You do need to pre-register before you come in, or parents can register on site. There are many locations around Kingston, but the main one is on Weller. The Weller location offers outdoor activities as well, weather permitting. Dear Families,As we move towards the last week of the 2025-2026 school year, I want to share a few important updates and reminders as we wrap up the year and begin looking ahead to September.2026-2027 School Year Budget At last night’s Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the Limestone District School Board’s 2026-2027 budget, prepared in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Board standards. Board of Trustees Approves 2026–2027 School Year Budget

At its regular meeting on June 17, 2026, the Limestone District School Board of Trustees approved a $340.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a deficit budget balanced through the use of reserve funds.The approved budget complies with Ministry of Education requirements and includes:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Operating expenditures of $316.8 million, representing a $73,000 decrease compared to the previous year.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Capital expenditures of $23.7 million, allocated to school condition improvements and renewal projects.</li></ul>The vast majority of the operating budget is directed to student instruction and relates directly to classroom support. The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education has shared a letter for students, parents and families: Dear Students, Parents and Families,To our amazing students: well done on finishing another school year! This is a good time to celebrate everything you have accomplished over the past several months. You worked hard, took on challenges, learned new things and continued to grow. You should be proud of all you have achieved this year.As you begin your summer break, take time to rest, explore your interests, and enjoy time with family and friends. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. To help provide clearer expectations and a more comprehensive picture of student achievement, high school students will complete written final exams during a dedicated exam period, and attendance and classroom participation will form part of their final grade. Mme Kennedy says: "It was so great to see so many families enjoying the Fête de juin last week. A tremendous amount of care and work went into planning this event by our Parent Council. From good food to student creations, face painting to lawn games, and having the weather on our side, the evening was a great success. Seeing children having fun with friends and families enjoying time together was a wonderful reminder of the strong sense of community that makes our school so special."Earlier in May, we had our second thrift sale and Isla Milne, the organizer has this to say: "The sale generated $2,005 for the school — a record amount raised and a record amount of clothing donated! Based on a rough count at the door, we welcomed approximately 120 families through the swap. I didn't count the clothing this time, but at a previous event we had roughly 4,000+ items, and this year the tables were piled even higher.Even better, all of the leftover clothing went to another local school. During the swap, a teacher from Centennial Public School stopped by and mentioned they were hosting their first clothing swap the following week. All of our remaining items were passed along to them, giving everything that didn't find a home at our event another chance to be reused. She shared that many students arrive with limited access to clean clothing at home, and the school often helps by washing clothes and keeping extras on hand for students who need them. They were grateful to receive the donation.Thanks a million to everyone who donated, sorted, hauled boxes, set up tables, packed up at the end, and helped make the event happen. What a team! Start saving your donations for the fall swap - and keep spreading the word!"I personally want to thank Isla on this amazing initiative and Parent Council for everything you do to support the school. At Rideau, we have an amazing amount of parent engagement in our activities which makes it the great place it is for our students. We are now in the last 9 days of school and things will go fast. End of year filed trips are happening as well as class celebrations for student achievement. Please make sure you let your children know how proud we are of their accomplishments. Your support helps them succeed.We are hoping the yearbook arrives on time this year. If not, please note that the school is open the week after the PA day, so it is possible to pick it up then. Pride Month Recognition in Limestone

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Education Centre, along with schools across the district, is recognizing Pride Month in the KFL&A region by flying the Progress Pride Flag for the remainder of the school year.The Government of Canada notes that the manner in which the Canadian flag is displayed is not governed by legislation. The guidelines provided are not mandatory for individuals or organizations but are intended to offer general direction.After consultation and clarification from Heritage Canada and communication with trustees, LDSB schools with only one flagpole will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag for the balance of this school year.  Limestone’s goal will be to increase the number of schools with more than one flagpole and/or the addition of yardarms to existing flagpoles to display more than the Canadian flag. Until this goal is achieved, we will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag at sites with only one flagpole.Displaying the Progress Pride Flag is a way for LDSB to show support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This recognition does not diminish our respect for Canada’s national flag; rather, it reflects our commitment to ensuring that all students, staff, and families feel welcomed, valued, and respected in Limestone schools.Flying the Progress Pride Flag is one example of how LDSB demonstrates its inclusive culture. La fête de juin: June 10, 4-6 p.m. Amazing event with face painting, lots of fun games and activities, the Spring Bling student craft sale, a seedling sale by donation, and (barring no emergencies) a fire truck visiting! Food trucks on site will include FryWay, J.P. Weirdough's Pizza, and Kona Ice, or bring a picnic!Cotton candy, popcorn, and student crafts will be cash only (I believe everything is $5 or less). There is no cost to any of the activities.We are still seeking volunteers to help us make this event happen! Volunteer shifts are 30 minutes long. I want to make sure you understand the grades your child receives as I think there is sometimes a misconception as to what a grade means. Here is the Ministry's definition of each of the levels of achievement:Level 1 - D represents achievement that falls much below the provincial standard. The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with limited effectiveness. Students must work at significantly improving in specific areas, as necessary, if they are to be successful in a subject or course in the next grade.Level 2 - C represents achievement that approaches the standard. Students performing at this level need to work on identified learning gaps to ensure future success.Level 3 - B represents the provincial standard for achievement. I cannot wait to see what Part 2 brings. A huge thank you goes out to Mr. Davison and his team for making this happen.To finish the day on Thursday, we had our Kindness Cafe; an initiative of Mme K. With the help of volunteers, Mme Haley, Mme Danielle and Mme Denise, Mme K. organized a wonderful event where their students delivered specialty coffees and delicious treats to staff. It was lovely to see the students in their aprons go around the school and bring treats to the staff. It is a special event we all appreciate. Bloom Skills Centre is a Kingston-based non-profit organization that provides life skills, social skills, and employment-focused programming for young adults with intellectual and developmental exceptionalities. Through hands-on learning opportunities in areas such as social skill development, cooking, gardening, media, customer service, and community engagement, Bloom supports participants in building confidence, independence, and meaningful community connections.While Bloom previously operated a full-time café program, they have recently transitioned into a new Community Market model, which combines garden-grown produce, food access initiatives, and employment skill development opportunities for students. Ontario’s story is one of growth, innovation and diversity. Generations of people and communities, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, as well as newcomers, have helped shape Ontario’s communities, industries and institutions over time.From the North to the Great Lakes, and from small towns to major cities, Ontario’s people, resources and achievements have helped drive progress across the country and beyond.
