Rideau Public School - Weekly Memo November 3-7Rideau PS

Good afternoon Rideau Families,

We have survived Halloween week and are now into November. Thank you to everyone who helped with the Boo Bash; it was a success! Kids were having a lot of fun and it gave time to parents to catch up with their friends as well.

With November comes the rain. We have seen more and more students bringing their umbrellas to school. Although it makes sense to use an umbrella when it rains, little ones need a bit of umbrella etiquette: the umbrella is not a sword or a hook. The staff thanks you in advance to review these with your child.

With cold season upon us, many children bring their own hand sanitizer to school. Please make sure it is unscented as we have many people who have severe reactions to scented products that can quickly turn into an asthma attack. In fact, being mindful of not using or sending scented products to school is very thoughtful.

RIDEAU WEAR - The Rideau wear store is now open for 2 weeks. Click https://rhinoswear.ca/ and it will take you to this fall's collection. We have kept the Rad Rhino option from the Rideau 100 as it was a very popular item. We have refreshed the logo and the fabric of our T-shirts. There should be something for everyone.

LIBRARY - The Rideau 100 Library Project is looking for volunteers on Nov. 14 (a PA Day) to help with the library reorganization. Please see the flyer for details!

CHOICES AT 7 - for children in grade 6, there are options for grade 7. More information to follow, but see the poster below.

PRIME MINISTER AWARD - Teachers and early childhood educators are coaching children through problem solving in all areas of life, whether it's in science and math or school yard interactions. Now is your chance to thank a teacher or an early childhood educator in your life. Nominate them for a 2026 Prime Minister's Award now.

STUDENT CENSUS - See Yourself in Limestone – Student Census Survey

Limestone is committed to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all students. To help us better understand how students’ identities and experiences relate to their achievement and well-being, we are launching our second See Yourself in Limestone Student Census Survey this fall.

The census is a voluntary and confidential survey for students in Grades 4 to 12, running from November 24 to 28, 2025. It gathers information about students’ identities and their experiences at school. This data is then paired with academic information to help us understand what school is like for different groups of students.

Important information for families:

  • The survey is optional.
  • Responses are confidential and students can skip any questions they do not wish to answer.
  • Students will complete the survey during class time.
  • Students who do not participate will be provided with an alternative activity.

Families who do not want their student(s) to complete the survey must contact their school principal by Friday, November 14, 2025. Opting out means the student will not receive the survey in their e-mail inbox.

By better understanding students’ identities and experiences, we can remove barriers and better support students in accessing what they need to succeed.

BOOKFAIR - Mark your calendar, Rideau will host a Scholastic Bookfair during the week of December 8. We will need volunteers to help us during the day. The fair will also be open for two evenings: December 10 and 11 until 7:00 PM. Please let me know if you are available. I will soon have a volunteer sign up sheet.

INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE COURSES - There is an opportunity to sign up for indigenous language courses. Please see the information below if interested.

PARENT COUNCIL MEETING - Tuesday November 4 at 3:45. There will be a representant from the city talking about the upcoming project to make the streets around the school safer for children, especially at drop off and pick up times.
