Rideau Public School - Weekly Memo November 10-14Rideau PS

Bonjour Rideau Families,

Welcome to the first snow fall of the season. I am not sure what Kingston is like, but north of the 401 the snow is slowly covering the grass. Fingers crossed that the roads are cleared for tomorrow's commute.

Our Parent Council Minutes for October's meeting have been approved at our November meeting last week. You can find them below. At this latest meeting, we had representatives from the city presenting the project for the Park Street and Toronto Street intersection. It will be quite the endeavour and should help with traffic and safety. In the meantime, please remember to be careful, patient and gracious. We need to be looking out for our children's safety.

RIDEAU WEAR - The Rideau wear store is still open this week. Click https://rhinoswear.ca/ and it will take you to this fall's collection. If you want your order to be held at the office, please select that option "HOLD AT OFFICE" when ordering; otherwise, the order will go to the class and will be sent home with your child.

LIBRARY - A huge thank you goeas out to Cat, Hugo and Melissa for their amazing work in the library this week. We are still eagerly seeking volunteers who are available Fri. Nov. 14 (the PA day) to help with our library reorganization. We have hundreds of books to move to their new home and we are also looking for people to stamp and sticker new books to get them into student hands. More info below. Please sign up so we have an idea of numbers!

BUS BEHAVIOUR - We have not had our bus safety presentation, but it is coming soon. In the meantime, we would appreciate if you could review bus etiquette with your child. Students need to be seated and refrain from eating, yelling or hitting while on the bus. These may seem like obvious expectations; but we find ourselves having to repeat them too many times. Our bus drivers have a big responsibility and they should be able to focus on the road.

BULLYING AWARENESS AND PREVENTION WEEK - Next week will be dedicated to bullying awareness and prevention. November 21 will be pink shirt day. In their home communication, teachers will share what they will do in class. As a school, we will continue sharing our message of kindness and respect in our interactions.

BOOKFAIR - Mark your calendar, Rideau will host a Scholastic Bookfair during the week of December 8. We will need volunteers to help us during the day. The fair will also be open for two evenings: December 10 and 11 until 7:00 PM. Please let me know if you are available. I will soon have a volunteer sign up sheet.

FUNDSCRIP - With the holidays coming up, some of you might consider gift cards as presents. If that is the case, consider purchasing gift cards for stores you are already regularly shopping at. The gift cards are sent to your home for a small mailing fee. Anywhere from 1-10% of your purchase is donated back to the school.  Follow this link: Rideau Public Fundscrip  Our team code is: 5KHPWW. Check below some of the specials for November and December.

STUDENT CENSUS - See Yourself in Limestone – Student Census Survey

Limestone is committed to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all students. To help us better understand how students’ identities and experiences relate to their achievement and well-being, we are launching our second See Yourself in Limestone Student Census Survey this fall.

The census is a voluntary and confidential survey for students in Grades 4 to 12, running from November 24 to 28, 2025. It gathers information about students’ identities and their experiences at school. This data is then paired with academic information to help us understand what school is like for different groups of students.

Important information for families:

  • The survey is optional.
  • Responses are confidential and students can skip any questions they do not wish to answer.
  • Students will complete the survey during class time.
  • Students who do not participate will be provided with an alternative activity.

Families who do not want their student(s) to complete the survey must contact their school principal by Friday, November 14, 2025. Opting out means the student will not receive the survey in their e-mail inbox.

By better understanding students’ identities and experiences, we can remove barriers and better support students in accessing what they need to succeed.

PA DAY - Remember that Friday is a PA Day which means no school for students. Teachers will be at Bayridge Secondary School attending professional development workshops on reading, writing, math, AI and so much more. Our own Mme Bruce and Mme Rea will be presenting on that day.

If you have a moment, stop by the school to have a look at the Lost and Found. There are treasures of shirts, sweaters, hats and shoes that are in need of a good home.

Have a good week!

Valerie Arsenault, Principal
