What's Happening at Rideau Public School

Bienvenue aux Familles de Rideau!

We are so happy to start school on Wednesday!

Class assignments went home on Friday and I know there were some happy children and some who were less happy. Creating class lists is a complex process and a lot of time went into it. Before requesting a change, take a moment to experience it. Just because we did not come up with what you were expecting or wanted does not mean it is a bad thing.

Communication with teachers - it will be important to set up regular communication with teachers. Some use agendas, but more and more use the Microsoft Teams application because of it's safety features. If you are picking up your child early or if you have a change to the end of day routine, it is important for teachers to know. They, in turn, will tell the office. Please remember that a last minute end of day change is challenging when we want to ensure 470 students make it home safe. Plan ahead and keep us in the loop.

If you are picking up your children at the end of the day, please wait outside of the yard until 3:30. Classes do not officially end until 3:35 which means that even if students are on yards, they are most likely in a gym class with their teachers. We do not want anyone inadvertently getting hit with a ball.

There are many children with very serious food allergies in the school. Your child's teacher will inform you of what they are. Items containing nuts or peanuts should never be sent to school.

First day - On Wednesday, we will welcome students on yards at 8:50. They will have plenty of time to catch up with their friends and play. There will be signs around the yards indicating where your child should line up at the bell. Teachers, wearing their Rideau colours, will be out there to welcome them. Because of the work that continues on the MacDonnell side of the yards, all classes grade 1 - 6 will enter the school through the north door.

Parent Council is an active partner in education for our students. Please read their information below.

Hot Lunch Orders

Hot lunch days are back! We are happy to be able to provide the opportunity to order a hot lunch again this year through LunchBox. This will start the week of September 15 and you will have until noon on the 14th to place your order. We will continue with the Little Caesars' pizza on Tuesday, Paradiso on Wednesday, Pita Pit on Thursday and Edo Japan on Friday.

The LunchBox website is very user friendly and it should only take a couple of minutes to set up an account online. If you already have an account, please re-assign your child to the appropriate teacher for this school year. Hot lunch orders will continue to support student activities with a small portion of each sale coming back to our school. The funds raised help subsidize field trips, buy consumables for the class, repair or enhance technology and pay for special events at the school.
