Rideau Public School

Weekly Memo September 14-18

Rideau PS

Bonjour Rideau Families,

Another great week went by and we are ready for week three. By now, students are settling in there routines and teachers are gathering diagnostic assessments to see where children are at in their knowledge of literacy and math. Teachers will use this information to guide their teaching and group their students.

On Tuesday, School Council will hosts a meet and greet on Tuesday after school. Come and join us to discover what this dynamic group of parents is all about. For those interested in joining School Council, elections will be at the September 29 AGM. You can nominate yourself by following this link: Rideau Public School - Parent Council Nomination Form 2026-2027 – Fill out form

Volunteers - Individuals wishing to volunteer must have a recent police record check completed (within 6 months of start date).  To facilitate this process, prospective volunteers can get a letter from the office to take to the police detachment that covers the area in which they reside. Once received, the prospective volunteer must upload their completed police record check to LDSB Police Record Check Portal. For those who already brought your CPIC to the office in the last 2 weeks, we will upload it for you.

Rain Coats - We have experienced our first rain day last week. When the rain is light, we would still like for students to get some fresh air. Therefore, having a rain coat and rain boots is ideal and allows them to enjoy the outdoors.

Hot Lunches - They are starting this week and will be served at first nutrition break except for Greek Town which will be at second break.

Open House - Families are invited to come and meet their child's teacher on September 24 from 4:30 to 5:30. This is not a BBQ; it is an opportunity to meet the teacher and visit the school.

Extra-curricular activities - Soccer and Cross Country have started.

Safe and Accepting School Team - The school is putting together a team to review the code of conduct, assess students' well-being and discuss other ways to make students feel welcome at school. This committee will have one opening for a parent and one opening for a community member. Let me know if you are interested.
