Rideau Public School
Weekly Memo June 8-12
Bon après-midi Rideau Families,
This week will be an exciting one!
EQAO is behind us, our grade 3 and grade 6 students worked really hard. Our teaching team also put in extra time and effort to make sure each child had the chance to shine through this assessment.
WEDNESDAY AFTER SCHOOL - Don't miss it! La fête de juin: June 10, 4-6 p.m.
Amazing event with face painting, lots of fun games and activities, the Spring Bling student craft sale, a seedling sale by donation, and (barring no emergencies) a fire truck visiting! Food trucks on site will include FryWay, J.P. Weirdough's Pizza, and Kona Ice, or bring a picnic!
Cotton candy, popcorn, and student crafts will be cash only (I believe everything is $5 or less). There is no cost to any of the activities.
We are still seeking volunteers to help us make this event happen! Volunteer shifts are 30 minutes long. We can only run school events if people help out! Please email Cat at catlondon@gmail.com for more information.
The Parent Council Environment Committee will host a small seedling sale (by donation) at the school gathering event on June 10. If any families have extra seedlings they would like to donate to this sale, please contact leilan.baxter@gmail.com.
SPRING BLING is Rideau’s student craft sale where kids get to make & sell their own crafts!! Bracelets, Kandi beads, bookmarks, 3d printed figures, pop-tab creations — the sky’s the limit!
Friday is Pride Celebration day
We are celebrating and learning about Pride this month. Students are encouraged to come dressed in their rainbow colours on Friday June 12. We will have a brief assembly, a neighbourhood parade, and then finish with bubbles and music in the yard on Friday afternoon.
Report Cards
You will soon receive your child's report card for term 2. I want to make sure you understand the grades your child receives as I think there is sometimes a misconception as to what a grade means. Here is the Ministry's definition of each of the levels of achievement:
Level 1 - D represents achievement that falls much below the provincial standard. The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with limited effectiveness. Students must work at significantly improving in specific areas, as necessary, if they are to be successful in a subject or course in the next grade.
Level 2 - C represents achievement that approaches the standard. The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with some effectiveness. Students performing at this level need to work on identified learning gaps to ensure future success.
Level 3 - B represents the provincial standard for achievement. The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with considerable effectiveness. Parents of students achieving at level 3 can be confident that their children will be prepared for work in subsequent grades or courses.
Level 4 - A identifies achievement that surpasses the provincial standard. The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with a high degree of effectiveness.
Our goal is to have students achieve at level 3 (B) so that we know they met the standard for the grade they are in.
Ground UP Dance Festival is Kingston’s dance series focusing on building community, providing performance platforms for emerging and established choreographers, and supporting artists throughout their journey in creation and development.
