Rideau Public School
Weekly Memo June 1-5
Bonjour Rideau Families,
We ended last week with an amazing Talent Show (Part 1) where students impressed us with music, dance, gymnastics, and skills. I cannot wait to see what Part 2 brings. A huge thank you goes out to Mr. Davison and his team for making this happen.
To finish the day on Thursday, we had our Kindness Cafe; an initiative of Mme K. With the help of volunteers, Mme Haley, Mme Danielle and Mme Denise, Mme K. organized a wonderful event where their students delivered specialty coffees and delicious treats to staff. It was lovely to see the students in their aprons go around the school and bring treats to the staff. It is a special event we all appreciate. Here are a few words from Mme K.:
"Please extend my sincere thank you to the following staff and students who participated this year. We heard repeatedly how appreciative staff was.
Merci to Mme Denise, Mme Haley and Mme Danielle. They ensured the order form got out, the aprons were designed and that students were supported.
Thanks to the students who participated: Tristan, Noah, Leo, Kahlo, Gaby, Callan, and Ethan. The students came back beaming knowing they brought smiles to our staff.
A huge thank you for the delicious treats from Bloom skills. Bloom Skills Centre is a Kingston-based non-profit organization that provides life skills, social skills, and employment-focused programming for young adults with intellectual and developmental exceptionalities. Through hands-on learning opportunities in areas such as social skill development, cooking, gardening, media, customer service, and community engagement, Bloom supports participants in building confidence, independence, and meaningful community connections.
While Bloom previously operated a full-time café program, they have recently transitioned into a new Community Market model, which combines garden-grown produce, food access initiatives, and employment skill development opportunities for students. They are excited to celebrate the Grand Opening of our Community Pantry on June 5th."
Monday is, June 1, Ontario Day. Ontario Day is an opportunity to celebrate the province and the significant milestones and contributions of past and present generations, highlighting Ontario’s important role in Canada.
It is also a chance for students to learn more about Ontario’s history and develop a shared appreciation for the province and its future. Ontario’s story is one of growth, innovation and diversity. Generations of people and communities, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, as well as newcomers, have helped shape Ontario’s communities, industries and institutions over time.
From the North to the Great Lakes, and from small towns to major cities, Ontario’s people, resources and achievements have helped drive progress across the country and beyond. Ontario Day also provides an opportunity to recognize the diverse linguistic and cultural communities that enrich our province.
The Parent Involvement Committee at the Board level will be hosting an event on social media and youth on June 5th. See the poster below.
La fête de juin: June 10, 4-6 p.m.
Please mark your calendars for this amazing event with face painting, lots of fun games and activities, the Spring Bling student craft sale, a seedling sale by donation, and (barring no emergencies) a fire truck visiting! Food trucks on site will include FryWay, J.P. Weirdough's Pizza, and Kona Ice, or bring a picnic!
Cotton candy, popcorn, and student crafts will be cash only (I believe everything is $5 or less). There is no cost to any of the activities.
We are still seeking volunteers to help us make this event happen! Volunteer shifts are 30 minutes long. We can only run school events if people help out! Please email Cat at catlondon@gmail.com for more information.
The Parent Council Environment Committee will host a small seedling sale (by donation) at the school gathering event on June 10. If any families have extra seedlings they would like to donate to this sale, please contact leilan.baxter@gmail.com.
SPRING BLING is Rideau’s student craft sale where kids get to make & sell their own crafts!! Bracelets, Kandi beads, bookmarks, 3d printed figures, pop-tab creations — the sky’s the limit!
How does it work?
Mini makers sign up to sell their creations at the Student Craft Sale table on June 10th, labelled at whatever price point they wish, and then they get to keep the proceeds of their hard work - with one condition - each Student Maker must submit one (1) item to the School Council table which raises funds for the school’s FoodShare program. [Unsold items will be returned to each Student Maker the week following the sale.]
Help support our school, learn finance & business skills and have the opportunity to make your own $$ too!
Submissions are open to all Rideau Public students, from JK- Grade 6.
