Rideau Public School
Weekly Memo May 25-29
Bonjour Rideau Families,
With many field trips coming up, I would like to remind parents that we cannot take/post pictures of other people's children without explicit permission. I know that with Meta Glasses, it becomes really easy to capture memories, but we have to be mindful that not all parents want their child's picture on social media. You can still take pictures of your own child, you just need to be mindful of others around them.
We have a wonderfully organized soccer game happening during the Grade 1-3 recess. We have Grade 6 students refereeing, an adult supervisor overseeing, and many other students who like to watch and cheer from the sidelines. All students in Grade 1-3 who expressed interest get their turn to play. This has helped greatly with the conflicts and aggressions we had been seeing at recess while students were playing soccer, so we will continue with this until the end of the school year. This is the only soccer we are allowing on the field due to those previous conflicts and injuries. We now have lots of new lines on the pavement where students can play hopscotch, four square, do an activity circuit on the track, and use the wall ball targets.
Parking at drop off and pick up continues to be an issue where adults are not being safe. We need to put our comfort and convenience aside to keep our students safe. This means obeying the parking signs posted all around the school, slowing down, and being courteous to one another. By-laws have been advised that it is time for another round of supervision and tickets will be issued.
The Parent Involvement Committee at the Board level will be hosting an event on social media and youth on June 5th. See the poster below.
The Health Unit has recommendations for the coming month. Please see poster below.
The Parent Council Environment Committee will host a small seedling sale (by donation) at the school gathering event on June 10. If any families have extra seedlings they would like to donate to this sale, please contact leilan.baxter@gmail.com.
This reminds me to mention that June 10th will be a fun event for all families to come and celebrate the end of the year with your children. There will be plenty of fun to go around.
Thank to parents of a grade 6 student who have sent me baby pictures already. Keep them coming! We need them for the end of the year slideshow.
