Rideau Public School - Weekly Memo Sept. 15-19
September rolling smoothly!
Good afternoon Rideau Families,
There are many things to mention this week. Here they are in no particular order:
CROSS-COUNTRY - practice will start tomorrow at second recess. Here is the permission form and the introduction letter that went home last week.
CONSTRUCTION - They will be paving on Thursday and Friday. It will be very "stinky" and students might not enjoy the smell, especially if they have asthma. We will keep the windows on that side of the building closed.
BRAVE workshops - Our school is deeply committed to supporting the well-being of every student. This year, we are proud to offer Brave Education workshops, which align with our school’s strategic plan, as well as the Ministry of Education’s Policy/Program Memorandum 169 and PPM 144. These workshops will help our students develop essential social-emotional skills, promoting healthier relationships and fostering positive interactions throughout our school community.
Workshops
Setting Healthy Boundaries: Grades 1-3
Bullying, Conflict, and Relationships: Grades 4-5
Bystander: Grades 6
For at-home resources, please visit Brave’s resource page.
CLOTHES SALE - We will hold our annual clothes sale on October 25. See information below for more details.
DATA VERIFICATION FORMS will be coming home with your child this week. These forms are to insure that we have correct contact information for your child. Please review and return to their teacher promptly.
HEALTH CURRICULUM - As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8. Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.
INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE COURSES will be offered online again for older children. If this is something you would like to know more about, please reach out.
KINGSTON FRONTENACS Also, we are going to be fundraising at the Kingston Frontenacs game on October 5th. We will be at the Chuck-a-Pep table, we will be raffling off a signed jersey, and families will be able to buy their tickets through Ticketmaster with a unique link/QR Code. We will have the code early next week.
LUNCH SUPERVISION VOLUNTEERS
We are always looking for volunteers for school events and field trips. This year we are also looking for adults to help with supervision in classrooms during the Nutrition Break. If you are available between 10:45-11:30 and/or between 1:10-1:55, and would like to volunteer in a kindergarten classroom while students eat, please let us know!
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY - In partnership with KidsInclusive, occupational therapy services are available to school. For more information, read this information letter.
PARENT COUNCIL - Our AGM is Wednesday September 17 at 6:30 in the staff room. Baby sitting provided. If you would like to nominate yourself, complete this form. You have to complete the form every year, even if you were on council last year. If you prefer a paper form, we have them at the office.
As always, I will try to keep you informed of all the wonderful things happening at school. Reach out if you have questions.
Have a great week!

Hot Lunch Orders
Hot lunch days are back! We are happy to be able to provide the opportunity to order a hot lunch again this year through LunchBox. This will start the week of September 15. We will continue with the Little Caesars' pizza on Tuesday, Paradiso on Wednesday, Pita Pit on Thursday and Edo Japan on Friday.
The LunchBox website is very user friendly and it should only take a couple of minutes to set up an account online. If you already have an account, please re-assign your child to the appropriate teacher for this school year. Hot lunch orders will continue to support student activities with a small portion of each sale coming back to our school. The funds raised help subsidize field trips, buy consumables for the class, repair or enhance technology and pay for special events at the school.
